Tropical forests also have the lowest proportion of regrowing forests. Net emissions from LULUCF in the tropics dominate global LULUCF emissions because forests regrowth mostly compensates for emissions outside of the tropics, whereas deforestation greatly outpaces regrowth within the tropics.
