ABOUT THE WRITER
Malte is a PhD student in Economics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). His thesis focuses on the socio-economic drivers of deforestation, using microeconometric and spatially explicit methods, and feeds into CIFOR's Global Comparative Study on REDD+. Malte’s research interests are centred on conservation and livelihood implications of mineral excavation in Eastern DRC.
