Government and business in Indonesia share the goal of curbing deforestation, despite the tension between how they go about this, a sustainability expert says.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the 2015 Global Landscapes Forum, Tiur Rumondang, Executive Director of the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development, said that companies are driven by market demands and will be able to influence their business partners.

“Bigger companies with their power have a very strong role in meeting good standards,” she said. “This is the behavior of companies: They will comply with high standards if the market requires these high standards.”
