Prof. M. Hosny El Lakany speaks about the direction of forestry education

By Angela Dewan

Forestry scientists get a bad wrap for past mistakes, according to Chair of the Program Committee on CIFOR’s Board of Trustees Prof. M. Hosny El Lakany. The profession, once centred around facilitating deforestation, has a new and crucial role in the face of climate change, and El Lakany is set on finding new recruits.

In his role as Professor Emeritus at Alexandria University, Egypt, and Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada, El Lakany sees that the next generation of foresters are in need of opportunities to collaborate on this global issue with international partners. He and his colleagues are making that happen.
